{"id":65,"date":"2016-10-12T21:26:23","date_gmt":"2016-10-12T21:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/desert-underwater.dei.unipd.it\/?page_id=65"},"modified":"2026-08-28T08:54:52","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T08:54:52","slug":"download","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/desert-underwater.dei.unipd.it\/index.php\/download\/","title":{"rendered":"Download"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DESERT Underwater \u00a0<\/strong>(short for DEsign, Simulate, Emulate and Realize Test-beds for Underwater network protocols) is a complete set of public C++ libraries that extend the <a class=\"external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/nsmiracle.dei.unipd.it\/\">NS-MIRACLE<\/a> simulator to support the design and implementation of underwater network protocols.<\/p>\n<p>The DESERT Underwater project originated mainly as the answer to two wishes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to timely disseminate the underwater network protocols that we study and develop at Consorzio Ferrara Ricerche (CFR) and at the University of Padova, Italy;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>to push the studies on underwater networking beyond simulations: running research solutions on real devices, in fact, is of key importance to prove the validity of every protocol design.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, exposing our protocols and simulation systems to the community at large makes a valuable instrument available to all interested underwater network designers, and allows everyone to independently verify simulation as well as experimental results.<\/p>\n<p>In these pages, you will find the links and introductory material that will guide you to the installation and use of DESERT Underwater<\/p>\n<h2>GitHub repository and Code Download<\/h2>\n<p>We maintain and share our code using\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/signetlabdei\/DESERT_Underwater\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-81\" src=\"https:\/\/desert-underwater.dei.unipd.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/GitHub-Mark-64px.png\" alt=\"github-mark-64px\" width=\"28\" height=\"28\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you wanna test the <strong>bleeding<\/strong> edge of DESERT, you can clone DESERT using git with the following command (you need to have alread a GitHub account).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<pre>git clone -b master https:\/\/github.com\/signetlabdei\/DESERT_Underwater.git<\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Contribution to DESERT is always more than welcome, if you plan to contribute submitting patches, new features and\/or improvements, consider reading<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/signetlabdei\/DESERT_Underwater\/blob\/master\/CONTRIBUTING.md\">https:\/\/github.com\/signetlabdei\/DESERT_Underwater\/blob\/master\/CONTRIBUTING.md<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT:\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Using master branch of DESERT project is suggested for development purposes. Even though our master branch is considered &#8220;stable&#8221;, id did not undergo proper testing before release. If you instead are interested in using the stable release <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/signetlabdei\/DESERT_Underwater\/releases\/latest\">at this link<\/a> you can download the latest source code<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Docker image<\/h2>\n<p>If you want a stable and tested environment, you do not want to install external stuff on your VM\/workstation and you are familiar with containerization please consider using our docker image, for every release<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<pre>docker pull uwsignet\/desert:4.0.0<\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<p><br \/>On docker image, tcl samples coming from the repo are directly included, so you can directly testing with<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<pre>docker run -it --rm uwsignet\/desert.4.0.0 bash<\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<p><br \/>You&#8217;ll enter container bash shell where you can test and experiment tcl.
